The Indian Army has achieved a significant milestone in its continuing modernization efforts by deploying the first upgraded T-90 Bhishma tank. This overhaul, part of the Army's "Decade of Transformation" effort, was carried out at the 505 Army Base Workshop in Delhi Cantonment. General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, attended the celebration and praised the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) for their outstanding performance.
The T-90 Bhishma, in service since 2003, is an important part of India's mechanized Army. Its refurbishment required the total disassembly of over 200 assemblies and sub-assemblies, which were methodically reassembled and tested with advanced technology provided by the tank's maker. After successful testing, the tank was reassembled and is now ready for deployment.
General Dwivedi emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating that it extends the life of the T-90 and strengthens India's self-reliance in maintaining and improving essential defence assets. He stressed the significance of innovation and skill development as the Army continues transforming efforts to boost the nation's defence capabilities.
The successful revamp not only improves the Indian Army's operational readiness but also represents a step forward in lessening reliance on foreign help for defence modernization.
