Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has designated 2025 the "Year of Reforms," the Indian Army has laid out an ambitious plan to achieve its aims. This project prioritizes five critical areas: jointness and integration, force reorganization, modernization and technology integration, systems and procedures, and human resource management.
The announcement is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen India's military capabilities in response to rising challenges.
Key reforms include forming integrated theatre commands to maximize resource allocation and addressing emerging domains such as cyber and space. Simplifying weapons acquisition and improving interoperability among the army, navy, and air force are critical to this effort.
The army also targets domestic advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, and hypersonic technologies to improve combat preparedness.
Building on the success of prior programs such as the "Year of Transformation" (2023) and the "Year of Technology Absorption" (2024), the army sees 2023-2032 as the "Decade of Transformation."
Proactive initiatives are being taken to streamline legacy practices, improve procurement delays, and strengthen linkages with the domestic defence industry, placing India as a top exporter of defence products.
This strategic revamp is consistent with the aim of a technologically advanced, adaptable, and future-ready force.
