GE Aerospace to supply engines for Indian Navy's six missile vessels

According to an announcement from India's Ministry of Defense, the Indian Navy has chosen GE Aerospace to supply LM2500 marine gas turbine engine kits to power six Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMVs). The missile vessels will be built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will construct and test the engine kits at its Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine Division in Bangalore.

In addition to the engine kits, GE Aerospace will offer a complete set of gas turbine auxiliary equipment for the boats. The LM2500 engines have previously been tested in the Indian Navy, where they power six Shivalik-class frigates and the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, the Indian Navy's flagship.

GE Aerospace's LM2500 marine gas turbines power over 714 boats globally, demonstrating their dependability and performance. The engines also account for 95% of the propulsion gas turbines in the United States Navy fleet, cementing their position as a top choice for military vessels globally.

However, the delivery of these engines comes as GE Aerospace faces criticism for delays in supplying engines for India's Tejas fighter fighters. Meeting the expected delivery dates for these marine engines will be critical to keeping its reputation.
