According to sources, the Indian Army made a strategic move by using indigenously produced ' Sambhav ' smartphones during the crucial October 2024 border discussions with China. This decision, a key part of the Army's mission to safeguard sensitive information and enhance operational security, played a significant role in the success of the discussions.
The 'Sambhav' smartphones, developed in partnership with the Indian Army, academics, and industry, feature superior encryption technology and satellite-based mapping systems. These features ensure secure communication and exact navigation, even in rugged terrain. More than 30,000 officers have received these devices, demonstrating the Army's commitment to adopting cutting-edge indigenous technology.
An Army official underlined that mobile networks are inherently vulnerable to eavesdropping. To address this, we created an end-to-end secure mobile environment that provides network-agnostic, secure communication when on the move."
On October 21, 2024, India and China reached a significant breakthrough, thanks in part to the Indian Army's efforts, when they agreed to disengage troops at Demchok and Depsang in Eastern Ladakh. Days later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met for the BRICS Summit in Russia, agreeing to resume bilateral engagement mechanisms to deepen diplomatic ties.
