The Indian Army has undertaken a significant patrolling mission in Ladakh's Depsang area, marking a crucial step towards maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. This success, which followed an agreement between Indian and Chinese soldiers to resume patrolling in sensitive areas such as Demchok and Depsang, is a key development in the current India-China relations.
The 14 Corps, also known as the Fire and Fury Corps, played a pivotal role in the successful patrol. They issued the following update: "Following the consensus reached between India and China on disengagement, the Indian Army patrol in Depsang was successfully conducted today." The Corps' efforts have significantly contributed to maintaining peace and stability along the LAC.
This breakthrough was revealed shortly before Prime Minister Modi left for the BRICS Summit in Russia, where he held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Ministry of External Affairs also announced that verification patrols have begun in Demchok and Depsang, opening the stage for more organized patrols.
S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, acknowledged the progress, saying both parties have returned to their pre-2020 stances. This achievement contributes to the expanding list of de-escalation initiatives to ensure long-term regional peace and cooperation.
