In response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's comments regarding Chinese incursions, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has reiterated that the army should not be involved in political discussions.
"It is important that I make an effort to ensure that the army is not involved in politics," General Dwivedi said in an exclusive interview. Earlier this month, Rahul Gandhi claimed that because of the 'Make in India' program's failure, China is "sitting inside this country."
His remarks during the discussion of the motion of thanks for the president's speech caused a political uproar. Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, vehemently denied the allegation, stating that the remarks made by the chief of army staff were misunderstood.
According to General Dwivedi, India has bolstered its presence along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) but has not given up any territory to China.
He underlined that both sides have developed infrastructure, including roads and troop billeting, which has changed the terrain. In the meantime, China and India are still having diplomatic interactions.
The foreign secretary, Vikram Misri, recently travelled to Beijing to discuss bilateral ties and other disengagement initiatives in the Demchok and Depsang Plains regions.
