The Indian Army marked the 62nd anniversary of the Battle of Walong on Thursday, kicking off a month-long series of festivities to recognize the courage and sacrifice of soldiers and residents during the 1962 war with China. Dasanglu Pul, Minister for Women, Child Development, and Cultural Affairs, presided over the inauguration ceremony, sponsored by the Walong Brigade and attended by officials from the Indian Army, the Arunachal Pradesh government, and local inhabitants.

The evening, they opened with a rousing performance by the Walong Brigade's Pipes and Drums, followed by a mesmerizing cultural presentation. The primary guest launched two battlefield walks that retraced the paths of soldiers during the war.

These treks, including Jachep Tso and Kundao Tso, aim to boost adventure tourism in the picturesque Lohit Valley.Expeditions such as cycling, motorcycling, white-water rafting, and a half marathon are planned as part of the memorial festivities.

These will highlight the region's natural beauty while honoring the dead warriors. The Army also developed the Sadbhavna Projects, which help to build communities along the border.

The celebrations will culminate on November 13-14 with a big ceremony involving a Light and Sound Show and a martial arts exhibition honouring soldiers and local heroes who remained firm during the Battle of Walong.
