Armies of India, Pakistan hold talks in Jammu amid rising tension along LoC

On February 21, 2025, at the Chakkan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch, the Indian and Pakistani armies held a brigade-commander-level flag meeting amid escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu.

The conference's goals were to reduce hostilities and reaffirm pledges under the 2003 and 2020 ceasefire accords, which are crucial for understanding the current situation. Nevertheless, no joint statement was released, and no information about the talks was made public.

The discussions followed recent blasts and cross-border shootings in the Poonch area, incidents that the public should be aware of. Both sides have reportedly accused one another of violating the truce.

Pakistani media reported injuries to its soldiers in what it called "unprovoked firing" by India, while the Indian Army recently claimed that Pakistani forces were firing small arms.

Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, praised the discussions and said they aid in defusing tense situations. Both sides have suffered losses as a result of numerous reported skirmishes, sniper strikes, and IED explosions during the last two months.

To avoid further escalation, security analysts stress the significance of ongoing communication, which holds the potential for future dialogue and resolution.
