Three troops were killed, and three others were seriously injured when an Army truck plunged into a 200-foot-deep chasm near SK Bala in Jammu & Kashmir's Bandipora district on January 4. The car, part of a convoy moving from Arin camp to Bandipora , went off the road due to poor visibility and severe weather.
According to the Army's Chinar Corps, the injured soldiers were quickly evacuated with the courageous and selfless help from the local Kashmiri people, whose prompt assistance was not just appreciated, but also deeply admired. Tragically, despite their heroic efforts, one of the wounded soldiers died in the hospital.
Dr Masrat Iqbal, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora, revealed that two troops were killed and three critically injured were transported to better medical facilities in Srinagar.
A local resident, Mohammad Saleem described the accident scene as a dangerous blind bend near Wullar Lake. This area is notorious for accidents caused by fog, low sunshine, and difficult terrain, highlighting the challenging conditions faced by the Army personnel.
The Indian Army extended its heartfelt sympathies to the departed families and expressed its profound gratitude to the local community for their invaluable assistance during the rescue operation.
